Get Out: Music, Arts du Jour and Summer Zoomance

Summer is winding down and back to school is looming ahead. It's time to get out and enjoy the weekend. Here are some ideas:

When/where: Thursday 6 p.m.,
Why go: This Arts, Beats & Eats preview party raises money for 10 charities in Royal Oak and Metro Detroit. The event will feature food samplings of 50 Metro Detroit restaurants, live music and strolling illusionists.

What else: Ages 21 and up

2.  

When/where: Thursday 6 p.m.,
Why go: Enjoy an adults-only twilight stroll among the wild at the Detroit Zoo. Live music will be performed at the Rackham fountain featuring the Kris Johnson Group. Food and adult beverages will be available for purchase.
Pricing: $8 admission plus $5 parking (parking is free for zoo members)
What else: Ages 21 and up

When/where: Thursday 6:30 p.m.,
Why go: Enjoy games, activities, songs, cookies and storytime for the whole family.
Pricing: Free

When/where: Friday 8 p.m.,
Why go: Mega Weedge is a local Ween cover band. Catfish Mafia and Katie Grace will share the stage with them.
Pricing: $8
What else: Ages 18 and up

5.

When/where: Sunday 9 p.m.,
Why go: The Killer Flamingos is one of Michigan's favorite party bands and known for playing favorite hits and then some. Dance the night away to its high-energy blend of pop, rock and electronica.
