The month of July is winding down, and August is approaching. The summer seems to be flying by. Take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the nearby fun happenings this weekend.

Where/when: Thursday 7 p.m.,
Why go:
 AJ's Cafe in Ferndale will be hosting a peace walk kick-off party with an evening of music. Come out and show your support for the July 30 - Aug. 9 Peace walk from Detroit to Lansing. Musicians that will be featured include Julie Beutel, Diane Westin, Ryan Castelli, Nigne LoveRhodes, Afuera, Joe Kidd & The Sedition World Orchestra, Ruby Woods, AJ ONeill and many more.

Why go:
Has the summer heat got you feeling beat? Perk up with an evening of laughter courtesy of Mike Brody. Brody got his start in 2000 when he went to a friend's comedy performance and decided that he wanted to prove he was funnier. He has been featured on the Bob and Tom Show and is the event comedian for the SYFY Channel's TV show Ghost Hunters. Brody has also worked with big-name comedic acts including Dave Atell, Doug Stanhope and Emo Philips.

Where/when: Friday 1 p.m.,
Why go:
The All Star Tour will be a day full of rock and metal. Bands that are featured include Emmure, Alesana, blessthefall, In This Moment, For Today, iwrestledabearonce, Born of Osiris, The Ghost Inside, After the Burial, Attila, For All Those Sleeping and more. Get ready to rock!

Where/when: Saturday 12 p.m.,
Why go:
15 barbecue joints, 40 whiskeys and live music. Pig and Whiskey is the premier regional barbecue event of the summer. Grab your friends, and don't be afraid of getting your hands sticky. If whiskey isn't your beverage of choice, have no fear there will also be a beer tent. Music begins at 5 p.m., featured bands include Dutch Pink, Big Mess, Fawn, and The Detroit Cobras. 
Pricing: 
Drink tickets are $2.50 for 1 ticket or $20 for 10 tickets, restaurant samples and plate are $2 - $7.

5.

Where/when: Sunday 3 p.m.,
Why go:
Experience Shakespeare's The Tempest in the great outdoors at Starr Jaycee Park. Grab some lawn chairs or a blanket, kick back and relax and enjoy this Shakespearian treat of a performance.
