Jack White to Appear on 'American Pickers' Tonight

The one-time front man of the White Stripes offers to trade treasures on the History Channel at 9 p.m.

Local music superstar and collector of "crazy stuff" Jack White will appear on the History Channel’s American Pickers tonight.

When pickers Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, who scour the country for hidden gems, find an elephant head they ask their partner, Danielle Colby Cushman, to find a “third man” to purchase it. Cushman doesn’t disappoint when she delivers Detroit native White.

White, 36, as you may recall, was the leader of the now-defunct White Stripes. In 2003, White, along with musical partner and ex-wife Meg White, delivered their fourth album, the Grammy-winning Elephant.

“Jack White collects crazy stuff,” Cushman tells the pickers.

Indeed, White does collect a lot of stuff, which Royal Oak store owner Rob Rozycki knows well.

Rozycki and Roger Ellingsworth are partners in , where In 2000, a young White, who is a collector of mid-century modern furniture, designed in 1917 by Gerrit Rietveld.

"He asked us if he could take it for the weekend and use it for an album cover – for their De Stijl record. He said he would give us a album credit," Rozycki said. "I didn't want a bunch of kids messing around with a $3,000 chair. I told him give me $3,000 for the chair and I'll take the store credit," he said laughing.

White didn't come up with the money but he did come back later and buy a less expensive Egg Chair designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen.

"He paid for it with crumpled up bills he pulled out of his pocket. It was his bar money," Rozycki said. The future Grammy-winning artist may not have had a lot of cash at the time, but Rozycki said White had very good taste in furniture.

In tonight's show, White, now a member of The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, welcomes the crew from American Pickers to his Third Man Records location in Nashville. There he offers Wolfe and Fritz “personal artifacts, including the actual photo booth used in The Dead Weather ‘Hang You From The Heavens’ video” in exchange for their unique find, according to thirdmanrecords.com

White appears on American Pickers at 9 p.m. today on the History Channel in an episode titled “Elephant in the Room.” It is scheduled to repeat at 8 p.m. Thursday.
