Only the Lucky will be at Ten Man Jam

Some of country music's hottest artists will share the stage at the Royal Oak Music Theatre on Wednesday. But you have to win a ticket to go.

The third annual country music  is coming to Royal Oak this year, but there's a catch: The only way to get a ticket to the show is to win it.

After making stops in Dearborn and Canton in previous years, the  gets its shot at hosting the show on Wednesday.

"The Royal Oak Music Theater is a great venue, a real concert hall with history, said Tim Roberts, program director for country music station WYCD. “Anytime you can do a show in a venue with good acoustics and an intimate atmosphere like the Royal Oak Music Theatre, then you've got a killer show."

This year's lineup includes acoustic performances by local star Uncle Kracker, James Otto, Lee Brice, Randy Houser, Brett Eldridge, Justin Moore, Whitey Morgan, Adam Brand, Ashton Shepard and Sunny Sweeney.

Uncle Kracker, who will also be the emcee for the evening, most recently released a six-song EP on June 22 entitled Happy Hour: The South River Road Sessions. One of the songs, a duet with friend Kid Rock, titled "Good to be Me" quickly climbed the charts.

Whitey Morgan is also a Michigan act that was recently signed to Bloodshot Records. Group members play the type of country music referred to as “Outlaw Country.” Whitney Morgan’s self-titled debut album Whitey Morgan and the 78's was recorded at Levon Helm’s studio in Woodstock, N.Y., and released in 2010.

Prior artists featured in the 2009 and 2010 events included John Rich, Gretchen Wilson, Clint Black, Chris Young, Emerson Drive and Jake Owen.

Explaining how the Ten Man Jam works, promoter Larry Garcia of DetroitCountryMusic.com said, "What ends up happening during the jam is that each performer, such as Uncle Kracker, will come out and he’ll do a few songs. Then rather than him leave the stage, he stays on stage and then the next artist comes out.”

Garcia said the musicians will literally fill the stage. “It is done in two sections so that it’s five and five. By the end of each section they all end up playing together. It’s a total euphoric atmosphere," he said.

Garcia said he is excited for this year's event. “The event always turns out cool. The first year Clint Black was emcee and it was hilarious. Clint is funnier than all get out,” Garcia said. “Last year was Gretchen Wilson she did a nice job. And this year with Uncle Kracker, we’re really looking forward to see what he can do for the event."
