Royal Oak Commission for the Arts Looks for Artists

Art Explored program invites artists to submit work for consideration.

The City of Royal Oak has recently established a year-round public art program called Art Explored.  This year, six public art pieces will be chosen for outdoor display in the downtown area from July 2013 through April 2014.  The City of Royal Oak Commission for the Arts

(ROCFA) invites all artists to submit their work for consideration.

Artists interested in submitting artwork must send a completed application with required attachments to ROCFA@ci.royal-oak.mi.us by May 31, 2013.  Selected Artists will receive a $300 honorarium upon installation of their work.  Artwork will be accompanied by plaques identifying the artwork, artist, and directing users to the Art Explored webpage.  The Art Explored webpage will include an artist statement, picture of the art, and a link to their website.

The Artist is required to pay a 25% commission to ROCFA if their artwork is sold during the exhibit.  Funds will be used to sustain Art Explored and similar programs in the future.  If any artwork is removed by the Artist during the exhibit because it has been sold, it will need to be replaced by the Artist at the discretion of ROCFA.  Footing for sculptures will be provided by
the Commission for the Arts, but Artists will be responsible for installation, de-installation, and transporting their artwork to and from the site.

Pre-approved locations for artwork is available here.  However, Artists are encouraged to submit their own ideas for downtown artwork locations along with their application.
