Royal Oak's Drew Machak Eliminated from 'American Idol'

Local musician and Country Day graduate leaves the world of reality TV shows behind him.

Royal Oak's Drew Machak was eliminated in Thursday night’s first Hollywood round on American Idol, Royal Oak Patch has learned.

Machak, 20, is a member of the Lansing-based band The Blue Effect and a 2008 graduate of Detroit Country Day High School. He received his “golden ticket” to Hollywood last summer when he for the show in Milwaukee.

Machak’s father, Dave Machak, who lives in Royal Oak, confirmed late Thursday night that his son was eliminated on the second day of the first round of auditions in Hollywood.

The show did not air Machak’s American Idol audition. There were approximately 323 contestants who made it to Hollywood as a result of their first auditions in cities around the country. Thursday night’s show covered their tryouts in Hollywood in groups of 10 over a two-day period during which the judges eliminated approximately half of the contestants.

Machak was one of the unlucky ones.
