Friday, December 7 – Chelsea Handler Comedians
While there are large swaths of people who find “mean girl” humor loathsome, there’s no denying that E! Network mainstay, Chelsea Handler, has created something of a comedy empire. This week, three of the comedy dom’s most-loved writers — Brad Wollack, Jen Kirkman and Josh Wolf — hit the Royal Oak Music Theatre’s stage; sure to deliver their self-effacing-yet-still-somehow-rude signature brand of hilarity.
8 p.m. at the Royal Oak Music Theatre (318 W. Fourth St., Royal Oak; 248-399-2980). Tickets are $32.50. For more info: royaloakmusictheatre.com
Saturday, December 8 – The Blueflowers with the Volebeats and the Walking Beat
Fans of well-crafted alt-country and early rock ’n’ roll take heed: this show is stacked with local talent. The Blueflowers' haunting and poppy '60s sound (think Shocking Blue meets the Stone Ponys) is steeped in high musical tastes; while the Volebeats (fronted by garage rock godhead, Matthew Smith) are among the most-admired songwriters in country. Openers the Walking Beat offer super well-written Americana that's good enough to be eaten with a spoon...delicious music!
8 p.m. at the Berkley Front (3087 West 12 Mile Rd, Berkley; 248-547-3331). Cover is $5.
