Friday Night Arts, Beats & Eats Shows Cancelled Due to Rain

Eddie Money packs his bag and leaves to next gig after nonstop rain pulls the plug on his Arts, Beats & Eats performance.

The rain came and it would not stop so the music did.

Arts, Beats & Eats producer Jon Witz was blindsided by soggy weather that forced the Labor Day weekend festival to close one hour early on Friday night.

"We were tracking weather systems all day and we did not see it coming," Witz said Saturday morning. "The rain came and it just kept going. It would not stop."

As a result the decision was made to pull the plug on the final hour of the festival, which included 10 p.m. performances by rocker Eddie Money, Free Beer, the Killer Flamingos and others.

For those looking forward to seeing Money, he's already left town for his next gig, Witz said.

If there is a rainbow to the stormy weather, it is people trying to escape the pouring rain headed to Royal Oak restaurants and bars, according to Witz.

Overall, attendance was slightly down on Friday from one year ago. Witz attributes the slight drop to the last minute rain.
