Beaumont CEO recognizes employees and teams for extraordinary efforts

Beaumont Health System President and CEO Gene Michalski honored five employees and one team with President’s Awards at the Oct.16 Beaumont Recognition Night held at Penna’s of Sterling.

The awards were based on 204 nominations submitted by Beaumont team members.

“Every day the Beaumont team cares for the community in extraordinary ways,” says Michalski. “Presenting the President’s Awards is my way of recognizing the magnificent, meaningful work they do.”

The categories and winners are:

Rising Star Leader – Nicholas Tepe, M.D., cardiovascular surgeon, a Bingham Farms resident, for his leadership of the 2 East Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak.

Legacy Leader – Michael Rolnick, Ph.D., director, Speech and Language Pathology, a Farmington Hills resident, for his leadership of one the nation’s largest hospital-based speech and language programs.

Community Giving – Karen Whitefoot, RN, Psychiatry, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, a Clawson resident, for her role in founding the “Horses Heal Hearts of Michigan” organization.

Service Star of the Year – Samantha Hughes, nursing assistant, Progressive Care, Beaumont Hospital, Troy, a Davison resident, for a random act of kindness for the husband of a surgical patient.

Patient Safety Star of the Year – Peter Accica, RN, Inpatient Surgery, Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe, a St. Clair Shores resident, for his role in enhancing surgical patient safety.

Team Collaboration – The Stepping Into Mobility team at Beaumont Hospital, Troy, a collaborative program involving Nursing and Rehabilitation to enhance patient and employee safety through safer handling of patients to prevent injuries.

The Beaumont Recognition Night also honored 1,027 employees celebrating milestone service anniversaries of 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or 45 years. 

Beaumont is the largest employer in Oakland County with more than 14,000 full-time equivalent employees.
