UPDATE: More Snow Headed Our Way

Treated roads will be in fairly good shape through much of the morning commute, says the National Weather Service.

Update, 5:50 a.m.: A winter storm warning is still in effect. Snow is expected to move back into the area, reaching Royal Oak at 8 a.m. The snow will periodically be heavy, according to the National Weather Service.

Treated roads will be in fairly good shape through much of the morning commute. Secondary roads are likely to be slipperier and will worsen during the course of the morning, according to the weather service.

9:05 p.m. on Thursday: A winter storm is on its way to southeastern Michigan, and it could dump as much as eight inches of snow on Royal Oak by Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac.

A winter storm warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Thursday until 7 p.m. Friday. Snow will develop later this evening and become heavy at times between midnight and 8 a.m., according to the weather service.

Snow accumulation of 5-8 inches is expected in Royal Oak with the northern part of the city possibly experiencing higher accumulations. The morning commute will be very hazardous, and motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

In addition to the snowfall, winds up to 30 mph on Friday will cause blowing and drifting snow, which poses an additional hazard to motorists.
