Busy Weekend in Royal Oak: Parade, Holiday Craft Fairs, Chili Cook Off and More

There is a lot going on in Royal Oak today, so there's no reason to sit around at home. Here are some suggestions:

Santa Scamper

If you or your little ones need to get your wiggles out before the start of the Holiday Magic Parade on Saturday, sign up for the Santa Scamper. The fun run/walk is open to all walkers, joggers and runners and starts at 8:30 a.m. at . Here's .

Get your face paint on

If you really want to get into the spirit of the season before or after the parade, stop by  on Washington and Fifth where Lisa Marie O'Sullivan will be painting faces. She will be doing her holiday designs for all the kiddies 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

10th Annual Holiday Magic Parade

Royal Oak kicks off the holiday season with nearly 80 entries, including floats from the Parade Company, marching bands, community organizations, entertainment, the Royal Oak Hockey Association’s Zamboni and more. Jim Harper of Magic 105.1 is Grand Marshal and Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive.

Bring a new, unwrapped toy to be collected along the parade route by Marines for the Toys for Tots program.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lincoln and Washington and heads north on Washington to Fourth Street.  

Visit with Santa

After the parade, take the kids over to the Baldwin Theatre to visit with Santa from noon-2 p.m.

Craft shows

There are plenty of holiday craft shows going on this weekend, including: 

The PTSA's annual  features more than 100 crafters and other vendors, a bake sale, raffles, refreshments for sale and more. It runs 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Twenty crafters will be selling a variety of holiday and gift items at the . Those attending are invited to bring a can of food for the or a can of pet food for the . Last year over 12 groceries bags of food were donated. More information

Mothers’ Club presents the  today from 9 a.m.-noon. Shop more than 30 Michigan-based unique and handmade gift vendors.

 is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Royal Oak author will sign books 2-4 p.m. to benefit the day shelter in Royal Oak.

Chili cookoffs

The Royal Oak Jaycees are hosting its second annual Royal Oak Chili Cookoff on Saturday evening at the with live music, kids activities, a silent auction and local beer – and of course, chili! Local restaurants, businesses and community organizations enter their chili recipes into the competition and vie for titles such as Best of the Best, Hottest and Most Creative.

also is having a chili cook-off 5-9 p.m. Saturday. Attendees get all the chili they can sample in two divisions: restaurant and amateur. There will also be hot dogs and pretzels available and beer and wine for sale as well as a raffle, silent auction and college football on a big screen TV.
