Emagine Rocks the 'Best of Royal Oak' 2012 Awards

Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce celebrates community leaders. And the winner is ...

Since 1948 the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce has been honoring local businesses whose spirit, generosity and commitment to the community have been unwavering.

Last Tuesday, the "Best of Royal Oak" were honored at the 65th Annual Royal Oak Community Awards ceremony at the Emagine Theatre in downtown Royal Oak.

More than 130 local business owners and residents attended to recognize those who go all out to make Royal Oak a fun, safe and beautiful city.

"Living and working in Royal Oak is a pleasure," said Michael Chetcuti, who was presented with the Business Person of the Year award by Royal Oak Chamber President Howard Collens for his focus on business and service organizations in Royal Oak.

Chetcuti, who embodies high energy and fun, was joined by members of his punk rock band - The Chet Offensive - at the end of the evening for a three-song set. The owner of both Pizzeria Biga and Cloverleaf Fine Wine & Craft Beer, also earned a Business Beautification Award for remodeling and modernizing the century-old St. Clair Edison building, which is now home to Pizzeria Biga.

Upon receiving his award Chetcuti quipped, "I am glad we didn't choose to live in Troy," a jab at Troy Mayor Janice Daniels who last Monday got into argument with her city's Distinguished Citizen for 2012 during the presentation of the Troy award.
