First Look: Peet's Coffee & Tea Opens Woodward Store

With three new customers waiting to get in, Peet's Coffee & Tea opened its doors at 31901 Woodward Ave. at 5 a.m. Monday morning.

The former Caribou Coffee was gutted from floor to ceiling, said store manager Beth McGraw.

"Everything is brand new," she said. "Everything."

But what will set Peet's apart, according to store officials, is the freshness standards it adheres to. Coffee is never more than 30 minutes old.

"Peet’s is very coffee forward," McGraw said. "With Caribou, you might have been able to get a really sweet drink, where a Peet’s drink is a very full-bodied," McGraw said.

The store also offers a variety of baked goods, which arrive daily from Zingerman's Bakehouse of Ann Arbor.

An official grand opening will be held on Nov. 23.

Peet's store hours are:

Monday - Thursday: 5 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday: 5 a.m. - 9 p.m
Saturday: 6 a.m. - 9 p.m.
Sunday: 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
