Fitter Shows Support One Bra at a Time

Bra~vo Intimates sets Plush N Lush event for full-figured fittings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month has a lot of people talking about, well, breasts. And one local fitter is passionate about giving women the correct support system for them.

Rebecca Aughton said it's not uncommon to see more than 100 women visit during bra-fitting events. At this week's Plush N Lush event, the calls for fitting appointments have proved her estimate is true.

Professional fitters from New York will be available Wednesday and Thursday, but those fittings are already sold out, Aughton said. Space is limited for the rest of the week, so those who wish to take part in the event should schedule an appointment as soon as possible, she said.

Bras typically run $50-$65. Throughout the week, Bra~vo Intimates also will hold drawings for giftcards and free products. A gift with every purchase of three bras or more will be offered as well.

Aughton said a fitting room is kept open for walk-ins and there is an overflow room if things get really filled up.

The specialty store is known for providing support for plus-sized women, nursing women and those recovering from surgery.

"The average American woman falls somewhere close to a 36DD," Aughton said, "and department stores are stocking a lot of one size, usually much smaller."

Bra~vo carries more than 140 sizes, she said, and in April it will have Plush N Lush plus-sized swim bras and bottoms, as well as swim tops, dresses and tankinis to mix and match.

Sports bras are a particular pet peeve for Aughton, who said many women are working out with inadequate support. The store offers a variety of full support sports bras with wicking and ventilation.

"A sports bra should limit motion," she said. Aughton recommends two bras for active people, "one for the drawer, and one for the wash."
