UPDATE: Average Gas Prices Top $4; Lowest Royal Oak Gas at $3.93

Gasoline prices have skyrocketed with highs around town reaching $4.09 a gallon for regular unleaded.

It looks as though finding a gallon of gasoline for less than $3.93 is not going to happen Tuesday in Royal Oak, according to MapQuest.com.  Prices in Royal Oak are up 84 cents a gallon since Jan. 12, 20 cents since April 5 and 6 cents since April 19.

The upward trend is true around the state, according to AAA Michigan, which reported prices for self-serve unleaded rose 6 cents per gallon from Monday to a statewide average of $4.04 on Tuesday.

According to the auto club, the last time the average hit $4 was Sept. 19, 2008, when gas was $4.03 per gallon. AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.
