Get Out: See Chalk Art, Music for a Cause, Oktoberfest

Chalk & Chocolate Tour, Kendal Kidz concert on tap this weekend.

There are plenty of options this weekend for indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. Check out these ideas, leave a comment to add your own and then head out to have some fun.

Chalk & Chocolate Tour

When: Friday-Sunday; 7 p.m. Friday is the opening night gala and tours begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Why go: Catch original chalk art, music and chocolate this weekend, starting with an opening night gala Friday night at , which features many delectable delights from Royal Oak restaurants. The Brothers Groove will perform and internationally renowned artists will be on hand, including David Zinn, Larry Stephens and metal artist Keith Coleman. The event will kick off the weekend tours of chocolate sculptures, chalk art and even a 12-foot fire-breathing dragon designed by Coleman. Guests can pick up programs at the corner of Fifth and Washington – just look for the fire-breathing dragon.

Team Kendal Kidz Concert

When: 6 p.m. Friday

Where:

Why go: Team Kendal Kidz with special guests B-DAB and RADIOACTIVE will perform at the theater. People of all ages are welcome to attend the concert. Tickets are on sale at ROMTLIVE.com.

Cost: VIP balcony seating and hors d'oeuvres cost $52; general admission on the main floor is $32.

What else: Tickets of Kindness are also available here, which will be donated to families who have a child affected by cancer. Tickets will be donated to and U-M Motts children’s hospitals. 

Wine Tasting and Kraut Making

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday

Where:

Why go: Temple Israel’s Imagine Young Adults will celebrate Suk"kraut" with wine tasting and sauerkraut making.  Learn about the ancient practice of food preservation through fermentation and produce a jar of real sauerkraut.

Oktoberfest/86th Anniversary Event

When: 6 p.m. Saturday

Where:

Why go: Dance to The Good Times Orchestra, enjoy local beers, a silent auction, dancing by the Sarisan Slovak Folk Ensemble and see the largest pumpkin grown in Michigan. Proceeds will benefit the market and the Royal Oak Historical Society.

Children Read to Dogs

When: 10:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Saturday

Where: 

Why go: Kids will have the opportunity to improve reading skills by practicing with a registered therapy dogs. Children read to them in a one-to-one setting.

What else: Registration is required. Call the Youth Reference Desk at 248-246-3725 to sign up for a 20-minute time slot.
