A new packaging and shipping store has opened in Royal Oak in time for the holidays.

Goin' Postal, owned by Suzanne Weinberg of Royal Oak, has opened at 30270 Woodward Ave.

The national franchise, which has over 300 locations nationwide — including eight other Michigan locations — offers USPS, FedEx, DHL, stamps, color copying, notary, faxing, packaging, packaging supplies, laminating, passport photos, binding and greeting cards.

"What sets us apart is that we offer a variety of shipping options," said Weinberg. "When a customer comes in, we weigh and measure their package. Then using proprietary software, we put the information into our system and come up with the best price options."

Most customers are usually searching for the least expensive option, but occasionally time is of the essence. When that's the case, Goin' Postal can compare timing options between USPS, FedEx and DHL.

"We also provide packaging services at no additional charge," Weinberg said.

Customers only have to pay for boxes and packaging materials.

"We'll figure out the safest way for your package to get to its destination."

Goin' Postal also sells just the boxes and other shipping and office supplies.

You can also rent a mailbox at the shipping store.

"Your mailbox will have a address, not PO box number, but a real address," Weinberg said. "We can accept a package and sign for it for you. We'll even text or email you when it arrives. We offer security and we can prevent your package from sitting on the porch all day in bad weather."

Weinberg said they'll even forward mail to Florida snowbirds who use the mailbox service.

"We strive to be your friendly neighborhood shipping store," she said.

Smiles, like the packaging service, are also free.

A business called "Goin' Postal" in the city that was the first in a number of post office shootings? Am I the only one who thinks this is a tad bit tacky??

I'll stick with USPS.

http://www.unhappyfranchisee.com/category/franchisor/goin-postal-franchise/ Absolutely disgusting!!! And in Royal Oak no less! Are you sick or just ignorant to the facts of the term? Capitalizing on mental illness and a tragic event. I for one will not only NEVER use this service but campaign awareness for people that may not know what this means! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Going_postal http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_postal_killings http://www.dailytribune.com/general-news/20131113/wreaths-mark-royal-oak-postal-shooting-anniversary http://www.nytimes.com/1991/11/15/us/ex-postal-worker-kills-3-and-wounds-6-in-michigan.html

No col. you are NOT the only one that thinks that! A little hope is that most fail very quickly. I assume they think even bad publicity is good but by their failure rate that is clearly not the case. They will be gone VERY soon. GOIN’ POSTAL Franchise Complaints July 20, 2012 Goin’ Postal franchise opportunity: What could go wrong with a brand name inspired by mental illness and workplace violence? Obviously, something IS goin’ wrong with Goin’ Postal. Data released by the Small Business Administration (SBA) indicates that Goin’ Postal franchise owners who qualified for SBA-backed franchise loans have a high loan failure rate of 33%. That qualifies Goin’ Postal for inclusion in UnhappyFranchisee.com’s list of WORST FRANCHISES IN AMERICA (by SBA loan defaults) Are you familiar with the Goin’ Postal franchise opportunity? "News | Business Flag as Inappropriate Goin' Postal Opens Royal Oak Location" Flag the whole business as inappropriate! Does anyone think otherwise?

Worst business name since Chevy marketed the Nova in Mexico.

Unbelievably insensitive. Hope they didn't sign a long term lease. Can't imagine that business succeeding in this town.

As an active Royal Oak letter carrier who has to walk into that Post Office almost every day I am sickened by this franchise moving into my city. The term "Goin' Postal" came directly from the tragic shooting on November 14th, 1992. I am married to a retired carrier who knew the victims including the shooter. I work with folks who had a gun pointed at their head that day. When anyone uses "Goin Postal" jokingly, I always correct them and let them know there is nothing "cute" about the phrase. I wholeheartedly support my Royal Oak small businesses but I believe this business should be boycotted and possibly targeted for protest actions.

I heard they are also opening up a new gun store next to RO High School called The Columbine Shot Stop.

'Goin' Postal' has become a negative association with worksite violence. As a retired letter carrier I worked with all of the people who were murdered. The people I worked with are fine, dedicated, compassionate people. They do not deserve this hideous moniker, nor do they need to be reminded of this tragedy because some idiot thinks that the name 'is cute.' Shame on you!

Disgusting and in very poor taste. Even though it is a national company the name is rude.... and putting a location in royal oak is just a big rude slap in the face. I hope people protest. I also hope people boycott this place and call them and let them know.

Goin' Postal is a NATIONAL FRANCHISE, with over 300 stores nationwide, including three others in Metro-Detroit that have been in business for several years. It originated in Zephyrhills Florida, just outside of Tampa, over 10 years ago, and was named by its founders. As a Royal Oak resident myself, I have nothing but praise for the USPS and my neighborhood postman I've had for close to 20 years. A family member of mine was the victim of a similar tragedy, so I personally know the devastation brought on by acts of violence. It was never my intention to offend anyone, simply provide valuable services to the community. Thank you. Suzanne Weinberg

I believe in supporting local small businesses Suzanne, but you should have had some sensitivity to buying into a franchise with such a crazy name. Also, part of this company's message seems to be that the Postal Service employees are not giving good service and we are here to fix that. "We offer service with a smile" appears to say that you don't get that at the Royal Oak Post Office. I remember when Sambo restaurant owners made the same claims and excuses as you have just made in your comment. I wish you success, but not under the "Goin' Postal" banner.

They should see the problem with the name and decide on something positive like Stamps of Approval or Ship Happens
