Farewell Incognito: Hip Main Street Retailer Announces It Will Close

Incognito, which opened its doors in 1982, will close up shop at 323 S. Main St.

Another Main Street store bids farewell.

The signs at Incognito announcing the "End of an Era" were only up a few hours and the phones at Incognito, Royal Oak's apparel destination for hipsters, started ringing off the hook.

"The outpouring has been nice," said Angie Nagle, whose family owns and operates the store at 323 S. Main St.

After 31 years the store plans to close at the end of January.

"It depends on how quickly we can liquidate," Nagle said. Items at the store are marked at up to 75 percent off.

The family will continue its wholesale and eyewear business in Madison Heights.

"That's really where our passion is," Nagle said.

Here's what Incognito had to say on Facebook:

The time has come for us to close our doors and to thank all of you for 30 great years. We have met so many interesting people throughout our time here; many that we like to call our friends. We have customers who have shopped here since we opened our doors in 1982, now they bring their children in for that same shopping experience they once had.

We've also been introduced to so many new customers who come to us for our eclectic variety of apparel, footwear, and accessories. We thank you all. old and new, for your continuous support. Its been a blast, but its the end of an era. We will continue to offer our Incognito brand of eyewear online, and invite you to shop with us there.

Please come in, shop, say goodbye, and share your Incognito stories with our amazing, beautiful, talented staff that have been dedicated, smiling, and looking gorgeous every day, ready to make it a fun shopping experience for you.

Once again, we thank you for your support, and would like to remind you to continue to shop local, IT'S IMPORTANT!!
