New Greek Restaurant Coming to Main Street

KouZina will open in the former Zumba Mexican Grille location in mid-August.

Greek street food is coming to 121 N. Main Street in August.

"It's basically going to be a fast food carryout restaurant," said Bobby Leslaris, one of the partners behind KouZina. "We're going to have three rotisseries - one with lamb and beef, one with chicken breasts and one with pork. And we're going to have hand-cut fries, fresh spinach pies, Greek salads and fresh yogurt made everyday."

It's going to simple, inexpensive, consistent and good, he said and it will all be  in the former location of to a bigger location at 304 N. Main St. in the May.

Leskaris has never owned a restaurant before but he has 25 years in the concession business at Ford Field and Comerica Park and he also owns a catering business called Bite.

His parents, both chefs trained in Athens, owned two restaurants - one in Southfield and one in Allen Park - so the food business is in his blood.

The new restaurant will seat about 20 patrons and will have light blue walls with white tables and chairs. The exterior will be painted dark gray.

"We're basically just doing cosmetic things because we want to be open by Labor Day," Leskaris said.

The restaurateur currently lives in Southgate but he is apartment hunting in Royal Oak.

"My goal is to walk to work everyday," he said. "We really want to be part of the community."

By the way, the Greek word kouzina means kitchen. "The most important room of the house," Leskaris said.
