Ice cream devotees are not likely going to "love it" when they learn that the Cold Stone Creamery in downtown Royal Oak is closing.

Cold Stone made the announcement this morning on its Facebook page:

Cold Stone Royal Oak fans - Thank you for your continued support during the past few years. After much thought, we've decided to close the store. Please visit coldstonecreamery.com to find the location of another Cold Stone near you. Thank you again for supporting Cold Stone Royal Oak!

Are you sad to see Cold Stone go?  Tell us in the comments section below.

Sad to it close. My daughter worked there and it was a great place for a teenager to work at. Too bad Royal Oak will soon have nothing left for families and teens.

hey dummy there are almost too many ice cream places in royal oak, a new one opening just down the block on the corner
K. Scott December 05, 2013 at 03:45 PM
Wow, class act Jet.
TJO December 05, 2013 at 03:57 PM
He just made my point. He must be seeing double, that would explain why he thinks there are so many ice cream shops.

Why are so many Cold Stone franchises closing down? Are they going bankrupt or something?
al carter December 05, 2013 at 10:46 PM
We will miss the store and great employees! ;)

Jet, you're spot on with your perspective but not sure why "dummy" was necessary? All do respect TJO, you're clearly not paying attention, because downtown Royal Oak has multiple places to get ice cream and now a Yogurt City is opening at 2nd & Main St (already have Sweet Earth (yum!), Baskin & Robbins, and Astoria. For one, I am glad to see Coldstone close assuming something better and more healthy rises (Coldstone uses corn syrup, food colorings, hydrogenated oils, artificial flavors, etc.). I recommend going to Sweet Earth, a much healthier option.

Good riddance. The over priced frozen sugar sludge was novel a few years ago, but just like fashion these fads come and go. The cupcake craze will be the next thing to fade out. Maybe too many people know their trade secrets like their ice cream may be made fresh daily, but what you get served isn't what was made that day. Or maybe the fact that the kids scooping ice cream get paid a waitresses minimum wage ( and tips that they have to share with their co-workers) or it could be the fact that they discriminate and don't want to have to go through the whole HRO stuff that passed last month. Get out while you can Coldstone. I am sure they will put a bar or crap restaurant in your place.

Patience, "a bar or crap restaurant in your place"...so, you are talking about Cafe Muse, Lilly's, D'Mato's, Ronin, Inn Season, 212, Cacao Tree Cafe, Little Tree, Royal Oak Brewery, Lockharts, Bastones, Pizzeria Biga, Town Tavern etc.? Pretty sure that group alone is quite the opposite of "crap restaurants." Granted there are other restaurants that are not the best at the food option, but still do an excellent job aesthetically and suit their needs (precisely why they are still in business and always packed, i.e. BlackFinn and Mr. B's). Just because a restaurant does not suit your needs, certainly does not mean it is "crap."

Patience, your nonspecific statements provide no value. So you are either trolling the Royal Oak Patch website or you are a disgruntled Royal Oak resident who is not too discerning given you directly or indirectly (renter) pay Royal Oak property taxes.

Wow I call you a troll and moments later in a separate thread you call me a troll Way to troll. BRAVO! You want specifics here are your specifics. Mr. B's is a franchise and serves the same thing at each location and their artery clogging undercooked food leaves much to be desired. Their staff is non-attentive and if you want service you might as well prepare your food and drinks yourself. Cafe muse has a sister location in Ann arbor that has a much better atmosphere and seems to be more attentive to the needs of its patrons as opposed to the people at the location in this town who on more than one occasion act like their customers are a nuisance and they would rather let someone sit waiting for their food/bill than actually do their job. I could go on, but the story really is the same at most of these places. Either the service is bad the atmosphere is uncomfortable or the food isn't anything that I find myself wanting to go back for. This will be my last reply to you as you are no longer worth me wasting any more of my time responding to. If I haven't satisfied you, I am sure it will not be the first or last time in your life that a woman has failed in that area CDE get used to the disappointment.

Patience, I would stop replying as well if I were you. Your attention to detail is poor or just a matter of mental convenience. At 1:41AM in this post I accused you of trolling Royal Oak Patch and 1:48 AM in a separate thread you called me a troll. So yes, BRAVO! I don't disagree with you about a lot of the restaurants in Royal Oak, especially Mr. B's, but I just think your perpetual inappropriate comments are overwhelming. Again, if you need factual info, just look at YELP to get better insight on Cafe Muse.

You do understand that while you may have posted at that time there is a lag in the system that means that it takes almost 10 minutes for a post to actually be available for viewing? So while you may have posted one thing in one thread at 1:41 a.m it wasn't available for viewing til 1:51 a.m. so while I was posting at 1:48 a.m. I would not have been able to view your posting for another 3 minutes. I understand you are new to the patch and don't quite know how things work around here just yet, but this should give you a little bit more insight into the timing of messages that are posted.
