In Brief: July 12 Planning Commission Meeting

Panel gives cold shoulder to Kroger, OK's requests from Hermann's Bakery, Flex-N-Gate and a church.

Tuesday's Planning Commission meeting left all but Kroger petitioners pleased:

  • special land use and site development at 400 N. Main St., which has sat unused since Jim Fresard auto dealership moved to Ferndale. In keeping with the Planning Commission's vision and criteria listed in the city's Master Plan and special land use documents, the commission found no reason to move forward with the approximately 45,000 square foot store proposal.
  • , 317 S. Main St., sought permission to be designated part of the city's local historic district. Planning Commission voted unanimously to accept the petition.
  • , 4336 Coolidge Hwy., received permission to expand outdoor storage and relocate parking. Flex-N-Gate representatives were given a one-year contingency to review any noise complaints that arise due to the expansion.
  • Mitcham Chapel AME Church, 4207 W. 14 Mile Rd., was granted the right to install a 5.5 foot monument.
