Last-Minute Valentine's Day Shoppers Keep Gayle's Chocolates Hopping

Downtown store extends its usual hours to keep pace with demand for sweets for holiday gifts.

Patrons constantly walked in and out of in Royal Oak all day Saturday scouting out gifts for their sweethearts and loved ones. Managers were predicting an even bigger rush today – and yes, as late as Valentine's Day night, which is Monday.

Gayle's sells thousands of truffles and other candies, including its signature chocolate shoes, this time of year, Retail Manager Paula Batchelor said. More than any other holiday, she said, there seems to be no advanced planning and many people wait until the last minute for Valentine's Day gifts. Gayle's extends its hours for that reason every year in anticipation of the holiday.

If you're one to wait until the last minute as well, you can stop in today between 11 a.m.-6 p.m. or Monday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
