Downtown Royal Oak salon offers guests complimentary 'moments of wellness,' refreshments and discounts with proceeds donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

 in downtown Royal Oak is offering guests a chance to give and receive today during its annual open house.

Current and new clients are invited to the salon on Fourth Street 5-8 p.m. to enjoy complimentary "moments of wellness" and refreshments, free gift with purchase of gift sets. The business is also offering 10 percent off gift sets and gift cards all day.

Tonight's open house is part of Douglas J's “Light the Way” initiative, which allows guests to give gifts to their loved ones and community members in need. Douglas J will donate 5 percent of all of its revenue from gift set and card purchases through Dec. 24 to various local causes, including the Ronald McDonald house for the Royal Oak location.

“We’re very excited to help out such fantastic organizations this season,” Scott Weaver, co-president of Douglas J Companies, said in a news release. “It’s really important for us to give back to the people and communities that make our jobs possible, and we know that every dollar donated toward these causes will be helping families and children in our own neighborhoods.” 

Vistors to the Royal Oak salon will receive a small gift upon purchase of their gifts as a simple “thank you” from the company for caring about the community.

"We'll have what we call 'moments of wellness,' like hand massages and chair massages, as well as makeup consultations," said Isabel Olivito, director at the Royal Oak shop.

The popular event has drawn a couple of hundred people in the past, Olivito said. 

The salon will be open for all its regular services, including hair, nails, massages and skin and other alternative treatments. Appointments for those services are suggested, though walk-ins are welcome. The institute is open for services until 10 p.m. today. Call 248-336-5500 for more information.
