Matthews-Hargreaves Chevrolet Kicks Off a Homecoming Contest

Metro Chevy dealer gives one football fan the chance to win a pickup truck or $20,000 in cash.

Royal Oak High School's homecoming halftime was a kick for Greg Jones, who had a chance to win a Chevrolet Silverado or $20,000 in cash, thanks to a contest by .

Jones, 55, bought a dollar raffle ticket for an opportunity to kick a football into the bed of a Chevrolet Silverado for the chance to win the truck or  cash. It was all part of an effort by the dealership to build a longstanding partnership with , according to Lisa Burr, the executive manager for Matthews-Hargreaves Chevrolet.

To win the pickup truck, Jones had to kick a football through the uprights, have it land in the flat bed and stay there. Jones bought a dollar raffle ticket for the chance to win.

He knew it would be difficult, and it was. He didn't walk away with a truck.

“At 55 years old I knew it was going to be hard, but I had fun,” he said.

After the kick, Matthews-Hargreaves Chevrolet presented Athletic Director Brian Gordon with a check for $1,000, which will be used by the athletic department. 

“Metro Detroit Chevrolet dealers are trying to become more connected to their communities,” Burr said. “We get to sponsor one high school and we chose Royal Oak.”
