Photos: Red Fox English Pub Opens

Rooftop dining is back in Royal Oak.

The 184 seat Red Fox English Pub is muy macho with its warm woods, 38 draft handles and flat screen TVs, indoors and out. The pub hopes to be the place to go in Royal Oak to watch soccer and rugby.

Its rooftop patio, with 66 seats, opened Tuesday to sunny skies and temps near 60 degrees.

The pub is located above at 100 S. Main St.

Bill of Fare

The menu has a lot to offer.

It starts with appetizers, ends with traditional English dinners and has burgers, salads and sandwiches in between.

  • Appetizers and snacks: French onion dumplings, shrimp cocktail, French dip sliders and onion rings top the menu. Warm pretzels are a fun choice to share. They come with cheese fondue.
  • Salads: Salad choices include Caesar, spinach, cole slaw and the Woodward Salad, which comes with chicken or smoked salmon.
  • Dinners: Chicken tikka masala, salmon in potato, broiled codfish, and bangers and mash are part of the English fare. The house specialties are fish and chips and roast beef with Yorshire pudding.
  • Burgers and sandwiches: Burgers, French dip, roast beef and cheddar, grilled cheese and smoked salmon sandwiches are all great choices for lunch.

A place that serves English food on the roof of a crappy, d-bag filled tex-mex place? Wow, what's not to like?

We went to the Cantina Diablos Mexican place once and I do believe that it was the worst Mexican food in Royal Oak... If you think about it that's quite a feat... At least Memphis Smoke had good live music even thought the place had lousy food as well. My expectations for this English Pub are pretty low... Pictures look nice though.

wow...give 'em a shot! yeah, memphis smoke was an epic disappointment...awesome music, but poor management lead to cafeteria-level food. i haven't been to diablo's yet, but i'll def check out this roof-top bar.

Just stopped by on 4/22 with the wife and kids. The place is GREAT and we will definitely be adding to our restaurant/bar rotation. I also strongly dislike Cantina Diablo as do a number of people commenting above and I'm glad we didn't realize Red Fox was under the same ownership in that we probably wouldn't have even stopped in. Bottom line, the food was excellent (the kids really liked it too); the selection of local, domestic, and import beers was really good; nice atmosphere; friendly/efficient staff (our waitress was really accommodating with the kids and all and gave us a bunch of extra McClure's pickles - the best, when we asked)... hell the manager even stopped by to ask how everything was/get feedback (and it wasn't one of those bs/required glide bys like at some places). Really, I'd strongly recommend you give this place a shot, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Also, the patio/deck looked really nice, though it was still too cold when we were there to eat outside. Red Fox in Royal Oak - Thumbs up!

I would just like to say that we have gotten it right the second time around with Red Fox English Pub. For those of you that have not been back to Diablo's since we first opened, I suggest coming back in and giving us a second try. As for the upstairs, please don't knock it till you try it:) Brooke Santa Maria General Manager Cantina Diablo's/Red Fox English Pub bsantamaria@cantinadiablo.com
