Proposed Shopping Center Near High School Back on Planning Commission Agenda

The Planning Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Royal Oak City Hall.

The Royal Oak Planning Commission will tackle a busy agenda at its meeting 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

Proposed shopping center plan comes back

In March, the Royal Oak Planning Commission asked the developer of the Normandy Shoppes project to talk to the School District of the City of Royal Oak before it would consider approving a proposed shopping center at the former Board of Education building at the southeast corner of Crooks and Normandy.

A.F. Jonna Development & Management Co.'s proposed plan would call for the demolition of the former Board of Education building, used most recently by Re/Max Partners, to make way for a single-story 13,200 square feet building surrounded by 89 parking spaces.

Developer Jordan Jonna said desired tenants for the project included sit-down restaurants, fast casual restaurants and retail.

Because the property is near 1,500 students, planning commissioners felt it was necessary to have input from the school district before approving plans.
