Royal Oak Named Top Place for Michigan Job Seekers

NerdWallet analyzed 34 communities in Michigan as part of its ranking process.

Nerd Wallet has named Royal Oak the sixth best place in Michigan for job seekers. Livonia was number one.

NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy site, asked the following questions as part of its analysis:

  • Is the city growing?
  • Can you afford to live in the city comfortably?
  • Are most people employed?

"Royal Oak’s households earned a median income of $62,495 in 2011 while the city’s unemployment rate was 5.3 percent in August 2013."

Of the top ten cities, only Livonia (4.2 percent) and Rochester (5.0 percent) had a lower unemployment rate than Royal Oak, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Royal Oak’s largest employers include William Beaumont Hospital, Metaldyne and Consumers Energy.

NerdWallet analyzed 34 communities with populations greater than 25,000.
