Whimsy is Offering Upcycled Gift Wrapping Service

Proceeds to benefit Camp Mak-A Dream.

Whimsy is putting a new . . . or would it be old . . . spin on gift wrapping.

The new store on the Royal Oak, Clawson border that specializes in handcrafted, Michigan-made art, gifts and collectibles has added a new feature - upcycled gift wrapping. Now, through the end of December, all proceeds of this service will benefit Camp Mak-A Dream, a nonprofit that sends kids impacted by cancer to camp for a much needed respite.

Whimsy artists will utilize found objects and recyclable goods that include everything from old newspapers, magazines, blue prints and music sheets to electrical wires, plastic bags, buttons, cans and old clothing to create unique packages that might just be too cool to open. Upon request, we'll create themed packages that will give a hint of what's inside.

The kick-off for this fundraiser will be Saturday, November 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during Whimsy's Holiday Open House. We'll have raffles all day long, kids crafts and holiday treats.

On Thursday, December 13 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., artist Julie Race will host a class for anyone interested in capturing ideas on how to create their own upcycled packages for all occasions. Cost is $20 and includes supplies and holiday snacks. Call 248.850.8691 or go to whimsyroyaloak.com to register. Bring gifts to wrap.

Whimsy is located at 1800 W. 14 Mile Road, in the K&S Mall just west of Crooks Road.
