Viruses? Malware? No problem.
The following are some best practices that should be considered for the prevention of Virus and Malware infections:
1) Clean out temporary internet files regularly (this can be done using Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox, or utilities such as CleanUp! or CCLeaner)
2) Use Mozilla Firefox (or Google Chrome) instead of Internet Explorer, as it is far more secure
3) Run Anti-Virus scans nightly or weekly. We prefer Symantec Endpoint Protection or Microsoft Security Essentials over other Anti-Virus products.
4) Run Anti-Malware scans nightly or weekly using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
5) Be sure that Anti-Virus program is up to date (the program updates itself daily, however sometimes a reboot is required to activate the updates). So, I suppose this point could read "Reboot computers at least once per week"
6) Update the anti-malware definitions in MBAM weekly. In the free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, this is not done automatically
7) Last, but certainly not least, if something suspicious pops up on your screen, do not simply try to deal with it yourself, since the people that design viruses and spyware word the screen prompts deceptively. If you click "No", it might mean yes!
