Mental Attitude: Young Adult Memories Recalled in High Definition. New Research shows both younger and older adults have similar memory capacities; however, younger adults have a better memory because they recall stored items in "high definition." Researchers hypothesize that younger adults use a different form of visual memory, called "perceptual implicit memory," which improves their ability to recall experiences. Attention, Perception & Psychophysics, January 2014

Health Alert: FDA Warns Against Drugs with High Levels of Acetaminophen. Due to reports of severe liver damage, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked doctors to stop prescribing pain relievers with acetaminophen levels higher than 325 milligrams per dose. Accidental overdoses form these medications contribute to about 50% of cases of acetaminophen-related liver failure in the United States. Most cases of liver damage occurs in patients who took more than the prescribed dose, took more than one acetaminophen-containing product at once, or drank alcohol while taking acetaminophen.  U.S. Food and Drug Administration, January 2014

Diet: Americans Eating Better & Cutting Calories. According to a new report, it appears that Americans are eating healthier. The report reveals that Americans are making better use of nutrition information on food labels, increasing fiber intake, decreasing cholesterol, and reducing saturated fat calories. The Food and Drug Administration will soon propose nutrition label changes designed to make it even easier for individuals to make healthy food choices.  U.S. Department of Agriculture, January 2014

Exercise: Ease into Exercise to Reduce Risk of Injury. Experts recommend easing into a new exercise program to avoid injuries. Approximately 500,000 workout-related injuries occur each year in the United States. Rotating routines, using proper form, and improving flexibility are important to reduce injury risks. Houston Methodist, December 2013

Chiropractic: Care for Pediatric Epilepsy? A research review of 17 reports of pediatric epileptic patients receiving chiropractic care revealed positive response for all patients. This suggests that chiropractic care may provide a non-pharmaceutical treatment approach for pediatric epileptics.  Journal of Manipulative Physiological Therapeutics, March 2001

Wellness/Prevention: Heavy Drinking May Lead to Mental Decline Sooner. Researchers found that heavy drinkers may experience memory and executive function decline up to six years sooner than light or non-drinkers. Heavy drinking is defined as 36 grams of alcohol (about two pints of beer or two glasses of wine ) or more per day.  Neurology, January 2014
