5 Things to Do This Week

Here are some highlights of what is going on in Royal Oak.

Monday: Monday is Presidents Day, and there will be no mail delivery, and most banks will be closed. and the will remain open, and trash pickup is not affected. The federal holiday celebrates the birthday of George Washington, first president of the United States, who was born Feb. 22. The holiday has become synonymous with sales throughout the years, so if you are off from work, it might be a good day to go shopping.

Monday: The will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Room 315, third floor of 211 S. Williams St. Items on the agenda include two police department citizen awards and discussion on a controversial business reoccupancy ordinance.

Tuesday: Area residents are invited to an all-you-can-eat benefiting the March 12 St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The Ancient Order of Hibernians is hosting the event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Royal Oaks Elks Club, 2401 E. Fourth St. Tickets cost $10 for adults and $6 for children younger than 12.

Wednesday: State Rep. Jim Townsend, R-Royal Oak, will host an informational focusing on foreclosures from 6-8 p.m. at the , 222 E. 11 Mile Rd. Experts on the foreclosure topic and counselors available to help will join Townsend.

Saturday: The cities of Royal Oak and Berkley are holding a combined at 9:30 a.m. at A&M Towing, 303 E. Harrison Ave. Interested participants are encouraged to check the police department website for property auction listings and procedures.
