5 Things to Do This Week: Swim, Seuss, Bowlabration

Here are some highlights of what is going on around town this week:

Monday: Do you have warm-weather fever? Visit from 7-8 p.m. for a swim. Children through adults are invited to the time. Costs are $4 for adults, $3 for children 3-17 and free for seniors with pass. Nonresidents must pay an additional $5. For more information, call 248-435-8500, Ext. 1148.

Tuesday: at 7 p.m. at the , 222 E. 11 Mile Rd. Crazy activities and stories inspired by the famous children’s author will be a part of the event. Advance registration is required; call 248-246-3700 or visit ropl.org.

Wednesday: The Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority meets at 4 p.m. inside chambers, 211 Williams St., on the third floor. Authority members will discuss many important topics, including Arts, Beats & Eats, holiday lights and automated parking meters.

Thursday: At 7 p.m., the Historic District Study Committee will meet at the Senior Center, 3500 Marais Ave., which is north of 13 Mile Road, east of Crooks. Many interesting historical facts may be learned during these meetings. During the November meeting, members discussed found information detailing a man named Erickson who sold an extensive amount of property to Gus Dondero in 1898, including what would become Hermann’s Bakery on Main Street.

Sunday: The Royal Oak Optimist Club will host its 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Registration begins at 12:45 p.m. at Astro Lanes, 32388 John R in Madison Heights. The cost is $25 dollars per bowler, and proceeds will help the Optimists bring out the best in kids. For more information, call 248-760-6876.
