5 Things to Do This Week

Here are some highlights of what is going on around town this week:

Monday: State Rep. Jim Townsend (D-Royal Oak), is hosting his March coffee hour from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at , 401 S. Main St. District residents are invited to attend the event and ask questions, discuss concerns and offer suggestions regarding state government. Monday: The Royal Oak City Commission will meet at 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of , 211 S. Williams. Items on the agenda include a public hearing regarding the removal of diseased Dutch elm trees, a request to fill a mechanic position for the city’s motor pool, approval to use tri-party money for improvements to the 11 Mile Road right-of-way between Main Street and southbound Stephenson Highway and an update on the median placement on Troy Street to the east of the newly constructed Emagine Theatre on 11 Mile Road.

Wednesday: The Traffic Committee will meet at 7 p.m. on the third floor of , 211 S. Williams. Items on the agenda include a public hearing request to install “Permit Parking Only $50 Fine” signs on North Center Street, south of Catalpa, and a request to install a pedestrian light on Washington Avenue at Kenilworth Avenue.

Thursday: The ROOTS Foundation meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the , 3500 Marais Ave., north of 13 Mile Road and east of Crooks Road. The group’s mission is to “encourage philanthropy, to strengthen the spirit of the community and to enrich the quality of life in Royal Oak, now and in the future." The group is responsible for aiding many community groups, including the and the Senior Center.

Friday: The inaugural begins. The nine-day event will feature more than 20 participating restaurants, each offering a three-course meal at a discounted price. The event will also feature live entertainment nightly, the live Detroit Comedy Festival with at the and many other acts at .
