5 Things to Know Today in Royal Oak

A Royal Oak cop is honored, a tribute for Jordan and Ashley Siegel, an Illumination ceremony, powder puff football, and a flash mob at the farmers market are some of the things happening on around Royal Oak today.

1. Royal Oak Cop Honored for Valor in Gunfire-Filled Police Chase

Members of the 100 Club will gather at a banquet at the Detroit Athletic Club tonight to celebrate unsung heroes in public safety, including Sgt. Donald Scher of the Royal Oak Police Department. Scher was nominated for his bravery by Interim Police Chief Corrigan O'Donohue for an incident that involved a gunfire-filled police chase on Nov. 12, 2010. Read more.

2. Forever a Bulldog: Balloon Release Set for Royal Oak Siblings at Middle School

The Royal Oak Middle School Student Council plans a memorial in honor of Jordan and Ashley Siegel who died in a June car accident. Read more.

3. WA3 Hosts Illumination Event For Woodward Royal Oak Tribute

The Woodward Avenue Action Association (WA3) will host an official VIP Illumination ceremony and event on Oct. 3, from 6-9 p.m. to commemorate the installation of the Woodward Royal Oak Tribute located in the median of Woodward and 13 Mile Rd. Read more.

4. Flash Mob to Hit Royal Oak’s Farmers Market

5. Powder Puff Football game at Royal Oak High School

The Royal Oak High School senior girls take on the junior class in the annual homecoming powder puff football game tonight at the high school. Kick off time is 6 p.m.
