Beaumont Hosts Community Walking Seminars

Author Robert Sweetgall to emphasize health benefits of walking.

After a long winter, Beaumont Health System is encouraging area residents to get up and start walking. The benefits of walking are well-documented, including enhancing
heart health.

To motivate area residents to incorporate walking in their fitness routines, Beaumont is hosting author and walking/wellness expert Robert Sweetgall April 16-19. He will present four community walking seminars. Sweetgall, known as the “The Real Forrest Gump,” is the only person to have walked 11,208 miles through all 50 states in one year. He’ll talk about walking off extra pounds, getting heart healthy, reducing stress, planning nutritional meals and having fun.

“The main goal is to help inspire people to get out and move, and to enjoy it!” says Lucy Sternburgh, manager, Beaumont Health and Wellness Programs.

Sweetgall recently co-authored a new book, “One Heart, Two Feet” with Barry Franklin, Ph.D., director, Preventive Cardiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation, Beaumont Health System.
