Charlotte Ponce Update: Second Facial Reconstruction Surgery a Success
Girl disfigured by raccoon attack is recovering from second major surgery at Beaumont Children's Hospital in Royal Oak.
Charlotte Ponce's second facial reconstruction surgery to repair damage caused by a raccoon attack took place Oct. 4 at Beaumont Children's Hospital. Charlotte's parents offer her supporters around the world a post-surgery update and a heartfelt thank you in this video, filmed on Oct. 5.
The medical team at Beaumont's Ian Jackson Craniofacial and Cleft Palate Clinic performed the first in Charlotte's series of surgeries on Aug. 22. A raccoon attack, when the girl from Spring Lake, Mich. was an infant, left her severely disfigured.
Over the next two years, the surgical team lead by Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate director, Reconstructive Microsurgery at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak will reconstruct her nose, lip and ear.
