Detroit Zoological Society to Host National Humane Education Conference

Educational and networking opportunities offered to educators and individuals who are interested in humane education.

The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) will host the Association of Professional Humane Educators (APHE) National Humane Education Conference April 11-12, 2013, at the Detroit Zoo’s Ford Education Center. 

The annual conference, which is open to the public, offers educational and networking opportunities to educators and individuals who are interested in humane education. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from top professionals in humane education, including the Humane Society University, Jane Goodall Institute and Green Teacher Magazine, among others.

“We’re excited to be hosting this prestigious conference at the Detroit Zoo,” said DZS Humane Education Specialist Lisa Forzley, who is chairing the event. “This will be an incredible experience for anyone who is passionate about humane education and wants to expand their knowledge.” 

The registration fee is $225 for APHE members and $275 for non-members and includes lunch, break refreshments, a pre-conference mixer and dinner on Thursday. For an additional fee of $45, attendees can participate in a bus tour and lunch focused on Detroit urban gardening initiatives on Saturday, April 13.

The Detroit Zoo is home to the Berman Academy for Humane Education, which utilizes a variety of programs to educate the public on the importance of treating other living creatures with respect, responsibility and compassion.
