UPDATE: DMC Builds Pediatric Specialty Center in Troy

The Detroit-based healthcare provider once had plans to build an outpatient facility at the vacant parcel at Interstate 696 and Woodward.

Children's Hospital of Michigan announced a specialty center once planned for Royal Oak will now be built in Troy.

A new 70,000-square-foot facility will be built at 350 West Big Beaver that will house outpatient pediatric services. The price tag is approximately $42 million, with construction set to begin in the spring, according to a press release.

The Royal Oak Downtown Development Authority (DDA) took steps in February 2012 to sell the vacant 4.15-acre parcel at Interstate 696 and Woodward to DMC for a proposed 97,000 square-foot development. A year later Andrea Taylor, DMC press secretary, said the site did not have a big enough footprint and the health care provider was looking at other locations.
