Farmers Market Find: Ripe Peaches, Wild Salmon, Ribbon Cookies

Every week we will share what's new, interesting and in season at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.

Fresh fruit, fresh caught salmon and shortbread cookies star at the Royal Oak Farmers Market this weekend:

Peaches for Canning

It's the perfect time of year to grab a bushel of peaches for canning. Peaches are at their ripest this time of year, so canning makes that sweet, delicious taste available year round. Local farmers will have their bounty available this weekend for market shoppers.

Fresh Alaskan Wild Salmon

Royal Oak resident and fisherman Dan Decker will be back at the Royal Oak Farmers Market this Saturday with fresh wild salmon caught in the Bering Sea in Alaska.

Decker has a fully equipped fishing boat that he takes out for the fresh catch. He preps the salmon right when he catches it, flash freezes each one and sends it on its way to Royal Oak.

If you're looking for the freshest salmon, visit the market this weekend, Market Master Gwen Ross said. Decker's salmon isn't thawed until you are ready to eat it.
