Flash Mob to Hit Royal Oak’s Farmers Market

Keep the Money in the MItt's "MItt Mob" to hit Royal Oak's Farmers Market during food truck rally.

Who can transform you on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Royal Oak Farmers Market?

Keep the Money in the Mitt wants  the answer to be their “MItt Mob” as they strive to get everyone to “Take the MItt Promise” statewide aimed at keeping consumer dollars in the state, by spending them at Michigan-based businesses on Michigan-made products.

"We want it to be a ubiquitous statement," Auten says.  She hopes that if people make this promise, it will not only support our local businesses and helpMichigan in its’ economic recovery but it will also help young consumers realize the importance of supporting local businesses, so they will Keep the Money in the MItt as well.

MItt Mob events are similar to flash mob events, but with one key difference. Instead of dancing in the street, people who participate in MItt Mob events spend money. They spend this money at local businesses with the goal of supporting them and encouraging others to buy local. On Wednesday, October 3rd, Keep the Money in the MItt will hit the Royal Oak Farmers Market with a fun twist; MItt Mob and Flash Mob. First, Tricia Auten, founder of Keep the Money in the MItt, ask that consumers make a promise to spend their money on local products.  With their right hand raised in the air, to look like the state, consumers repeat after Auten, "I promise to change my consuming habits to include purchases from as many Michigan-based businesses as possible!" Then let the Flash Mob and the spending begin!

To register to participate in the flash mob and to learn the dance, visit the "Keep the Money in the Mitt" website (www.KeeptheMoneyintheMItt.com).
