Royal Oak Gets First Major Snow of Season

City could see up to 6 inches by tonight with lows around 11 and subzero wind chills.

By the time Royal Oak residents woke up Sunday morning, they saw a snowfall accumulation of one inch in some areas. By the time you go to bed tonight, there could be more, much more, in addition to high winds and cold temperatures.

The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings for Oakland and Wayne counties and predicted 5-9 inches of total snowfall accumulation through Sunday night. The storm is expected to increase in severity throughout the night, with a low of 11 predicted by the NWS and wind gusts as high as 37 mph to create a wind chill value as low as -6.

As of 6:40 p.m. Sunday, a snow emergency had not been declared in Royal Oak, nor were schools closed for Monday.
