Hundreds of Families Meet Their Best Friend at the Zoo

21st annual event found homes for 537 pets from 37 groups in 13 hours.

During the 21st annual spring Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo event held May 17 and 18 at the Detroit Zoo, 37 animal welfare organizations – including the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) – found homes for 537 animals in just 13 hours. In all, 397 dogs, 139 cats and 1 rabbit became someone’s best friend, representing a 25 percent adoption increase over the event held last spring. Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo was hosted by MHS and the Detroit Zoological Society and presented by Purina ONE.

“We are grateful for the support of the Detroit Zoo in hosting this event, as well as the participation of our partner organizations in making Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo a growing success,” said Cal Morgan, Michigan Humane Society President and CEO.  “When organizations work together, more animal lives are saved.”

Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo represents the continuing collaboration between MHS and other animal welfare groups which, in just the past 90 days, have saved 2,135 animal lives.
