In honor of Valentine's Day, we're taking a look at some of Royal Oak's cutest couples.

Royal Oak has its fair share of lovebirds, so we decided to check in with a few of them before Valentine's Day and ask them to share relationship and date night secrets.

Today we take a closer look at what makes Mike and Dawne Ripinski so sweet.

What’s the secret to a successful and happy relationship?

The key to our relationship is keeping a sense of humor. No matter how serious the situation we can usually find something to laugh about.

What famous couple do you emulate?

The couple we admire most is Bill and Melinda Gates. They have made it their mission to give back to the world community both financially and intellectually. They also lead a low key, humble lifestyle that does not reflect their wealth and position.

Why did you settle in Royal Oak, and how long have you lived here?

We originally settled in Royal Oak in 1977 for the location. Dawne was working in Southfield and I was in Harper Woods. It was pretty much in the middle and the drive was good for both of us. We now own our fourth Royal Oak house in 36 yrs. We almost moved to Rochester Hills in the 1980s, but decided to stay because we loved living here. It became "home" for us.

What’s your favorite romantic night out in Royal Oak and why?

We enjoy a night out at one of our favorite restaurants like Lily's, Gemmayze and D'Amatos. It is also fun to try a new place now and then like Maria's on Catalpa. We like being alone even though we spend much of our time working together in real estate. When we go out, we discuss other topics from family to politics to the movie we just saw.  Occaisionally we will meet new people and we enjoy sharing our Royal Oak experiences.
