Moms Talk: Should Kids Be Going to Midnight Movie Premieres?

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2' opens at 12:01 a.m. Friday. How young is too young for a midnight showing?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the last film in the seven-book and eight-movie saga starring everyone's favorite young wizard, premieres at 12:01 a.m. Friday around the country, including at the Emagine Royal Oak. If the last film is any indication, there's sure to be a large and enthusiastic turnout for the midnight showing. With school out, most area young people don't need to worry about getting up early the next morning, but how young is too young to go out that late?

Are midnight premieres inappropriate for younger kids? When is the best time to take your Potter-loving 10-year-old to see the film — at midnight with hundreds of adults and teenagers, or later during the weekend?
