New Museum Exhibit Highlights Royal Oak's Founding Families

Photographs and information about 80 founding Royal Oak families will be on display at the Royal Oak Historical Society Museum’s Grand Opening of the Founding Families Exhibit, Saturday, March 23, from 1 to 6 p.m.

Also available for viewing will be an abstract detailing the history of a piece of property purchased in 1834 by Hamlet Harris, a free black man who is buried in Royal Oak Cemetery. Pictures of his tombstone and pictures of his family will also be on display.

The 80 families include such familiar names as Benjamin, Parker, Starr, and Erb. There will be photographs of some of their tombstones and of our Civil War soldiers and replicas of Civil War uniforms.

Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. A donation would be appreciated.

The Royal Oak Historical Society is a nonprofit 501(c)3 membership organization. The museum is located in the decommissioned Northwood Fire Station at 1411 W. Webster. Regular hours are 1 to 4 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Parking is available in the rear.
