News from the Pews: Mid-Week and Outdoor Worship, VBS and More

Area churches continue to offer summer activities for all ages.

Here's what's area places of worship are doing in the area:

Worship in the park

Join  at 10:30 a.m. Sunday for its annual outdoor worship and picnic at , on 13 Mile Road just east of Crooks.

The informal service will be followed by a picnic potluck. Hot dogs will be provided and guests are asked to bring a dish to pass and place settings for their family. There will be games for all ages. For more information, call (248) 288-3230 or visit www.starrchurch.org.

Readiness Camp

As part of the preschool’s grand reopening, Prince of Glory Lutheran Church will offer a free Preschool-Readiness Camp for all 3- and 4-year old children. The camp, located at the church, 1357 W. 14 Mile Rd. in Madison Heights, will provide a great opportunity for parents to introduce their children to school and see how they will adjust to a classroom environment. This experience should make the transition to school easier for young children going to school for the first time this fall.

Vacation Bible School

, 202 E. Fifth St., Royal Oak, hosts VBS next week, July 18-22 from 9-11:30 a.m. Suggested ages: children from preschool to eighth grade. The cost is $10 per child with a maximum of $30 per family. There will be fun music from Captive Free that will inspire teaching and energetic playtime. Weekday services

  • Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church holds an informal evening worship service at 7 p.m. on Mondays. This service is perfect for those unable to attend Sunday worship. Congregants will spend time in worship and prayer and share in Communion. The Church is located at 749 W. 14 Mile in Clawson. For information, call (248) 435-8025 or visit www.trinityevclawson.org.
  • Prince of Glory offers Spiritual Vitamin, a mid-week, family oriented activity, taking a closer look at the Gospel of Mark. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays through Aug. 24. A light supper will be offered. There is no charge to attend, but a freewill offering is always welcome. Prince of Glory is located at 1357 W. 14 Mile Rd. in Madison Heights.
