PHOTOS: Royal Oak Residents Pay Tribute to Vets of Oakview Cemetery

A record number of volunteers placed flags on veterans' graves Saturday morning.

An estimated 100 volunteers gathered at  in Royal Oak at 10 a.m. Saturday to place American flags on more than 2,500 veterans' graves.

"It's the biggest group of volunteers we have ever had," said Carol Hennessey of the Royal Oak Memorial Society, which organized the event.

Scouting groups, neighborhood organizations, school groups and military veterans worked in the drizzling rain to place a flag next to each veteran's grave.
