Photos: A New Art Gallery is Coming to Royal Oak

Poesy, located on Rochester Road, will offer handmade works from an impressive list of artists.

A new art market will open its doors in Royal Oak on Nov. 1.

Poesy, 1600 Rochester Rd., will offer handmade works from an impressive list of artists, as well as operate as a working studio for owner Holly Laginess to create and sell her By Golly By Holly works.

"I want to give artists the ability to take a chance," Laginess said. "As an artist myself, I want to treat other artists the way I want to be treated."

Poesy is a dream come true for the Royal Oak artist, who currently sells her ceramic creations at numerous stores across the country, including the Yellow Door Art Market in Berkley.

"I have always wanted my own gallery," Laginess said. "I have been toying with the idea for a long time."

When Laginess, who has managed other galleries, stumbled the Rochester Road property, she knew it was the "perfect" place to invest in her own store.

Last week artists, such as Julie Langensiepen of Beverly Hills, began dropping off their works.

"Holly is giving artists an opportunity to branch out," said Langensiepen, as she dropped off several hand-stitched ornaments. "I am very excited to sell my work here."

Poesy will officially unveil its work with a grand opening event on Nov. 16. Stay tuned to Patch for all the details.
