Police Blotter: Downtown Bank Robbed, Multiple Auto Break-Ins and More

The following information was supplied by the Royal Oak Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Highlights from Royal Oak Police Department reports from the past week: 

Main Street bank robbed

PNC Bank, 225 S. Main, Dec. 26:  The bank reported a suspect walked in armed with a handgun and demanded money from a teller. The man received an undisclosed amount of currency and fled on foot. The man was described as 5-feet 8-inches to 5-feet 11-inches tall, medium complexion, wearing a black winter hat, a black ski mask, a black winter jacket, tight fitting black pants and athletic shoes.  

Home invasion

1400 block of Cherokee, Dec. 21:  A woman reported she was awakened by noises and saw someone in her home.  She described the suspect as a male with wavy medium length brown hair.  Investigation revealed the suspect had entered through an unlocked bedroom window.  The suspect fled when she called 911.

200 block of Willis, Dec. 22:  A complainant reported someone entered an unlocked window and stole a laptop, speakers and cordless drill. 

900 block of E. Lincoln, Dec. 23:  A complainant reported someone broke out a window and entered the home.  The suspect stole two laptops, iPad (mini), camera and jewelry.  The suspect left behind a royal blue winter knit hat with a “D” embroidered on it.

400 block of S. Edison, Dec. 24:  A man reported someone had attempted to break into his home sometime during the night.  The suspect cut the screens and attempted to open four different windows.  The suspect did not gain entry into the home.  

Laptop stolen

500 block of McWilliams Lane, Dec. 22:  A man reported someone had stolen his laptop. 

Items taken from cars

Total Soccer – 1403 Lexington, Dec. 20:  A man reported someone entered his vehicle and stole credit cards and an Apple iPhone. 

600 block of S. Wilson, Dec. 21:  A complainant reported someone smashed out the passenger side windows to two 2010 Jeep Wrangler’s which had been parked on the street.  In-dash GPS navigational units were taken from both vehicles.  

700 block of Helene, Dec. 21:  A man reported someone smashed out the rear driver’s side window to his 2012 Chrysler 200.  The unknown suspect stole the in-dash GPS navigational unit. 

City Parking Lot at Main & Sixth, Dec. 23:  A man reported someone stole the spare wheel and tire off of his Jeep Wrangler, while it was parked in the city lot. 

4100 block of W. 13 Mile, Dec. 25:  A woman reported someone stole the catalytic converter off her vehicle while it was parked. 

Malicious damage to property 

Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth, Dec. 23:  Security staff for the music theater reported a man broke the gate to the secured parking lot.  Officers responded and arrested the suspect responsible for the damage. 

Mobil Gas Station, 1624 E. 11 Mile, Dec. 24:  A complainant reported someone damaged the gas pump. 

Windows smashed out, vehicles damaged

500 block of W. Fourth, Dec. 23:  A woman reported someone smashed out the rear window to her vehicle while it was parked on the street. 

1700 block of Barrett, Dec. 24:  A woman reported someone smashed out the driver’s side rear window to her vehicle while it was parked on the street. 

1000 block of Mohawk, Dec. 24:  A man reported someone smashed out the driver’s side rear window to his vehicle while it was parked on the street. 

2200 block of Brockton, Dec. 24:  A woman reported someone smashed out the driver’s side rear window to her vehicle. 

W. Fifth and S. Center Streets, Dec. 24:  A woman reported someone had damaged the hood to her vehicle while it was parked on the street. 

1000 block of S. Campbell, Dec. 24:  A woman reported someone damaged the rear driver’s side door to her vehicle.  

Other incidents

Woody’s Diner, 208 W. Fifth, Dec. 24:  Central Business District officers were conducting a business check of the bar and security requested assistance with the removal of a disorderly man.  Once outside the man assaulted the officer and a person from the security staff and was arrested.
