Stayng in Tune: Rio Scafone and Seán Eric Harris Share a Passion for Music

In honor of Valentine's Day, we're taking a look at some of Royal Oak's cutest couples.

Royal Oak has its fair share of lovebirds, so we decided to check in with a few of them before Valentine's Day and ask them to share relationship and date night secrets.

Today we take a closer look at what makes Rio Scafone and Seán Eric Harris so sweet.

How long have you been together?

We met in 2007 on MySpace. It was a few months before we met in person, but very shortly after that, Seán was smitten. Rio was intrigued though leery about this "Sean from MySpace" as he was touring at the time with a band out of Canada and as she is also a musician she knew the wild ways of bands on the road. Thankfully he soon realized this fiery Italian was not going to put with any "bad boy" nonsense and he was able to straighten up and fly right - into her heart.

What’s the secret to a successful and happy relationship?

Sharing our passions (music/art/etc), and understanding the drive we both have for the creative process really serves us well as a couple. Another huge component to our relationship is allowing the other person the space to be their own person with their own interests, friends and projects, etc. Autonomy may seem counter intuitive when you think of a relationship but we feel it brings us closer and allows us to grow as individuals as well as a couple.  We are socio-politically like-minded, and where we do differ, we appreciate and respect the other's views.  And Sean adds, "Having a wife that gives me goosebumps every time she walks through the room really helps too."

What famous couple do you emulate?

Rio: To be honest the first couple that comes to my mind - and this about as far from a rock and roll couple as it gets - are the characters Phil and Claire from Modern Family. I swear the writers have bugged our house.

Sean: I want to say Sterling Archer and Lana Kane. Although it's probably as untrue as possible. I just love them.

Why did you settle in Royal Oak, and how long have you lived here?

We love the area. Lots of great restaurants, shopping, the Farmers Market is a weekly destination for us much of the year. Tree lined streets - it's just a really great fit for us. We moved to Royal Oak in October of 2009, three months after our daughter was born.

What’s your favorite romantic night out in Royal Oak and why?

Sean: Does staying home with my beautiful wife count? Although there are lots of great things to do, being in our Royal Oak home, cooking a good meal, and working on music with my amazing, talented, and sensationally hot wife fills me with joy and is more enjoyable than almost anything I can imagine! And we do enjoy returning to Bastone for our anniversary every year as that is where we met face to face for the first time.

Rio:  When you make your living as an entertainer, you quickly learn to cherish your private time at home. I agree with Sean, time spent at our Royal Oak home with Sean creating mouthwatering meals (yes, he rules the kitchen and his cooking is legendary) with our 3-year-old daughter, Sophia is simply the most romantic night out I could think of. Our family trips to Barnes & Nobles in Royal Oak are also delightful and Oberweis should have a table with our names engraved upon it.
